U14 Feile na nGeal 2016.

The agony and the ecstasy of sport was there for all to see at Fraher Field Dungarvan on Sunday morning the 19th of June when the Fethard U14 Feile hurling team playing in the Division 10 final vs Wicklow Co Champions Carnew Emmets . Just coming up short by the narrowest of margins in an exciting game of hurling. Playing in wet and windy conditions it was a game that ebbed and flowed .Having been five points up into the second half then going a point down with 7 minutes remaining ,a few minutes of stalemate followed and was then broken when Ryan Walsh thundered the sliothar to the net from a 25 meter free with two minutes remaining . The dream was very much alive but was short lived when the Carnew Emmets Captain struck again to get his second goal and ultimately the winning score to send the Fethard players, mentors and supporters from unmitigated joy to plunging them into the depths of despair. The final whistle sounded soon after and try as they did it was not to be our day…..beidh la eile .

The weekend began with two wins in Carrick on Suir on Friday evening against , Ballyvarney Down Co Champions and local team Carrick Davins. Saturday morning in the resplendent Barrack field Fethard our charges overcame our guests Aodh Ruadh Donegal Co Champioships to top the group and progress to the cup quarter final and rewarded with a home tie. Latin/Aherlow were our opposition and in a very evenly contested affair the Fethard boys showed their steel to come out on top and progress to the semi final again in Fethard. The opposition for the semi final were Ferrybank from Waterford but were no match for our Fethard boys who were getting better with every game and brushed the opposition aside to record a comfortable victory and move onto Sunday’s final. As previously reported it wasn’t to be our day Carnew Emmets won by the minimum to break our hearts but the Fethard boys can be very proud of their achievement on reaching the final of a national competition. They gave everything for Fethard Gaa over the course of the weekends campaign. The panel of 16 was as follows Conor Neville, Ciaran Moroney, Jack Quinlan, Shane Neville ,Robert Wall, Cathal O Mahony, Robert Hackett, Ryan Walsh Capt, Darragh Hurley, Micheal Quinlan, Nevan Healy, Sean Moroney, Cathal Ryan, Keenan Ahearne, Kieran O Donnell, Toby Collier. Management Mick O Mahony, Michael Moroney, John Hurley and Eugene Walsh.

As Chairman of the Fethard Juvenile Club I would like to express my deep gratitude for all the help and assistance from the parents ,host families, supporters and local businesses for their support and generosity which together made the Feile weekend a huge success without this it simply would not have happened.

I would also like to thank St Ritas Camogie club for their co operation before and during the Feile weekend. St Ritas themselves who also were very unlucky in not winning their final on Sunday against their guest club Camross from Laois.

I would also like to thank Michael Moroney our Feile Co ordinator and co selector for the huge body of work he completed to ensure the smooth running of the Feile weekend which was a very big success and even though most will come and watch the games the work involved in getting to that stage is staggering.

Finally I would like to express my thanks to anyone who contributed in any way to the success of this weekend however small it is very much appreciated by all at the Fethard Juvenile Gaa Club.

Mick O Mahony Fethard Juvenile Gaa Chairman
