A GREAT DAY FOR KILLUSTY N.S. ON LAST FRIDAY 11th NOVEMBER
Killusty National School created history as they won their first Cumann na mBunscoil title. Under the guidance of their teacher, Miss Gleeson, they served up a great display of football, to a small, but enthusiastic crowd, to overcome a very gallant Kilvemnon N.S. From the throw in, Kilvemnon broke up the field and tow great saves from Killusty keeper, Ava Ryan, kept the sides level. This seemed to spark Killusty into life and two quick goals from Matt Coen and Charlie Hackett. In the third and fourth minute, gave Killusty the lead that they never relinquished. Killusty kept up the pressure all through the first half and had extended their lead by half time.
In the second half Killusty again got the breaks and got some find scores from Jack Davey and Dara O’Meara. Kilvemnon kept plugging away and only for some defensive interceptions and blocks and saves from sub keeper Oisin Ryan, they would have been right back in the game.
In the end Killusty ran out comfortable winners.
The two goalkeepers, one either half, Ava Ryan and Oisin Ryan, were both excellent between the parts. Some fine saves and great positioning kicks gave Killusty the foundation to build from the back. The backs, Rose O’Donnell and Jake Coen blocked and intercepted tremendously throughout the game. In midfield, Dara O’Meara and Jack Davey were outstanding and worked tirelessly. In attack, the speed and accuracy of Charlie Hackett and the pin point passing and scoring of Matt Coen were a thorn in the side of Kilvemnon all through. The four subs that were introduced, Oisin Ryan, Taryn Purcell, Emily Davey and Amy Morrissey were all excellent and played a very important part in what was a fabulous victory for Killusty N.S. A day never to be forgotten.
Team: Ava Ryan, Rose O’Donnell, Jake Coen, Dara O’Meara, Jack Davey, Charlie Hackett, Matt Coen, Oisin Ryan, Taryn Purcell, Emily Davey and Amy Morrissey.
