Juvenile Gaa
Just letting you know that the AGM will take place on Friday 6th November at 8pm in the Tirry Centre. Please pass around the word.

As I stated at the last Committee meeting, I will be stepping down as Chairman at the AGM. Therefore at officer level that I am aware, that and the Secretary’s position (which has remained vacant since Wendy left) will require filling.

I need some text (10-12 lines max.) and one or two pictures from each age group on their activities during the year in order to complete the Secretary’s Report. Please submit this to me by Friday 23rd October.

Also, I want to let you know that the Feile (u14 hurling) is being jointly held in Tipperary and Waterford in summer 2016. Clubs wishing to participate were required to express their interest in the last week or so. I submitted such interest on behalf of Fethard. Involvement will require Fethard hosting a visiting club for the weekend of the competition. I will be attending an information meeting in Thurles in the next few weeks about Feile 2016 and further information will be provided at the AGM.

U-14’s

Our U-14s played their first game in the Autumn league on Tuesday evening last against St Marys and came away with a win on the night, next game V Cahir this weekend.
We were delighted to have Tipperary star Bubbles O’Dwyer take a training session with our U14’s & U16’s recently, a very productive training session was had by all.

U12’s

Team White  played Gortnahoe, Clonoulty & Knockavilla in the Autumn league, the team had some fantastic games and were unlucky not to qualify for the Semi finals.

Team Blue played Cahir, New Inn, Kildangan, Burgess & Moycarkey in the Autumn league where we finished  top of  the group.

On Saturday last we played Borrisoleigh in the county semi final, a hard fought game where we were victorious at the final whistle. We now play Cahir in the county final on Saturday next and ask people to come out and support these great girls.

ladies football,
U-14 GIRLS
Our u-14 girls played the competitive county blitz last Saturday in Monroe. We entered 2 mixed teams, one with the girls who will be over age and some of the younger girls plus a team of the girls underage again next year and the girls who will be moving up to u-14 next year. Both teams acquitted themselves admirably with our younger team unlucky to lose their games having held the lead in all their games. Our older team played in the A competition and were gauranteed at leas…t a semi final in which the beat a dogged Templemore side. In the final we played Thurles Sars and were unlucky to find ourselves 1-1 down after a minute. We regrouped and kept our opponents on the back foot for the remainder of the half where we trailed 1-3 to 1-1. We immediately levelled the game with 2 quickfire points. Sars added a point before a long range goal put us 2 clear. The decisive moment came when Sars netted themselves and with time running out we committed ourselves in search of a goal only to be caught on the break.
All the girls from both our teams performed brilliantly on the day,
We would like to thank all the girls for their commitment over the year and we wish all the girls the very best for the future.
DINNER DANCE
We will be hosting our first and hopefully annual dinner dance on the 13 of November in the clonmel park hotel. After a 3 course meal we will be having a medal presentation for the teams who were successful and then we will dance the night away to a live band and then Dj and bar extension until the wee hours.

U-16 GIRLS
Well done to our U-16 girls who competed in the All Ireland 7 aside competition last weekend held by Killmurry Ibrikane in Quilty Co Clare. The football on show was of a terrific standard with clubs travelling from all over to compete in this illustrious tournament.
The Fethard girls put in some incredible performances en route to the semi finals where they came up against an extremely good Corrafin side from Galway. After 4 battling performances the semi proved a step too far for the girls who had given their all right to the final whistle in every game. The girls can be extremely proud of their effort and as always represented their club brilliantly

No rest fot the U-16s this weekend as they will compete in the annual Mary and Mollie tournament on in Abbeyside, Dungarvan this Saturday. Could all girl be there for 12.20, please let management know of your availability

JUNIOR LADIES
Best of luck to our Junior ladies who will line out against Moyne Templetuohy in the Junior B championship semi final thisFriday 11th sept at 7 in Templetuohy. The winner will have short time to recover as the final is set for Sunday with Thurles Sarsfields awaiting. We wish the ladies the very best of luck and lets hope they take another step towards more silverware for the club

Cul Camp

120 boys and girls took part during the past week at the Cul Camp. The weather during the week stayed more or less fine and the children had a brilliant time. “Bubbles” O’Dwyer made a guest appearance on the final day of the Camp, much to the delight of the kids. The Clubs are extremely grateful to all the volunteers, adult and teenage, who helped out during the week. A special word of thanks to 2 people, who jointly co-ordinated this year’s Camp – Ann Marie Moroney who took charge of the registration and gear distribution prior to the Camp and Fiona Ryan who managed the overall day-to-day running of the Camp during the week.

The Liam Connolly Perpetual Cup

The sporting career of former Tipperary hurler and footballer Liam Connolly of Coolmoyne and Fethard will be celebrated with the running of the Liam Connolly Perpetual Cup on Saturday August 29th at 2pm in the Fethard GAA Pitch.

Liam had an extensive Inter-County career with the Premier County in Hurling and Football. He won an All-Ireland Minor Hurling medal with Tipperary in 1953 and won a Munster Minor Hurling title in 1954, losing to Dublin in the All-Ireland final. Liam played for the Tipperary Minor Footballers in 1954 and the Tipperary Junior Hurlers in 1955 and was an ever present on the Tipperary Senior Football team from 1956 to 1967.

Liam was left corner-forward on the Tipperary side which won the 1958 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final and right corner-forward on the 1960 team which captured the Munster final before losing out to Wexford in the All-Ireland Final. Liam won two more All-Ireland Senior Hurling medals in 1961 and 1962. He won two County Senior Football Championships with Fethard while he won a South Senior Hurling medal with Na Piarsaigh in 1957, losing out to Thurles Sarsfields in the County Final.

Liam also won 2 Senior National Hurling League titles with Tipperary in 1960 defeating Cork and in 1961 defeating Waterford.

He was honoured with a Hall of Fame award by the South Tipperary Divisional Board in recognition of his many honours on the field of play.

Liam’s inter county roll of honour is as follows:

Liam started his inter county career by represented Tipperary at Minor Football level in 1953.

In 1953 Liam also represented Tipperary at Minor Hurling Level and was victorious in the both Munster and All Ireland Finals.

In 1954 Liam again represented Tipperary at Minor Hurling Level and was victorious in the Munster Final and lost the All-Ireland Final to Dublin. Again in 1954 Liam represented Tipperary at Minor Football level reaching the Munster Final.

In 1955 aged 19, Liam played for the County Junior hurling team and also started his 11 year inter county career at Senior Football level for Tipperary.

Liam was noted by all, including Mick O’Connell of Kerry Fame, as the one finest Munster footballers of his generation.

1959 was the year in which Liam made in his Senior Inter County Hurling Debut for Tipperary versus Limerick.

It was in 1960 when he won his first Muster SHC medal beating Cork in the Final. Tipperary progressed to the All-Ireland Final narrowly losing to Wexford.

In 1961 he won another SHC Munster title beating Cork again. Tipperary again progressed to the All-Ireland Final this time winning the title by defeating Dublin.

1962 proved to be another extremely successful year for Liam winning a SHC Munster medal defeating Waterford in the final and again winning the Liam McCarthy Cup in Croke Park defeating Wexford in the 1962 Final.

1963 Liam played in yet another SHC Muster Final losing out to Waterford that year.

At the age of 31 Liam represented Tipperary at County Intermediate Hurling level defeating Galway in the Munster Final and was victorious over Dublin in the All-Ireland Final of 1966.

We would like to thank the people whom have given their time and effort into organising this hurling tournament dedicated to Fethard’s greatest sporting legend. We would also like to thank Sean and all the Connolly family for the kind sponsorship Clonmel Oil have given to this tournament.
